Our unique team of Squamish physiotherapists offer a variety of different approaches including Manual therapy, IMS and Acupuncture, Concussion Management and Vestibular Rehabilitation, Respiratory Physiotherapy, Pediatric Physiotherapy, Motor Vehicle Rehabilitation (ICBC), Worksafe BC Physiotherapy, CSCS (Certified Strength and Conditioning) and FMS / SFMA Testing, Exercise Prescription and Shockwave Therapy. Treatments are provided at our Performance Centre and include assessment, treatment (hands-on), and education/guidance for managing your injury, condition and concerns.
Manual Therapy is a hands-on approach to addressing pain and immobility by releasing tight muscles, restricted joints, and scar tissue in order to reduce pain and inflammation and improving mobility and function. It is used to treat headaches, neck and shoulder pain, low back pain, pelvic dysfunction, hip knee foot and ankle pain and arthritis.
Acupuncture and Intramuscular Stimulation (IMS) are therapeutic needling techniques that use very fine sterilized needles to penetrate the body to help reduce pain, swelling, tight muscles, compressed nerve roots and muscle imbalances. Acupuncture inserts needles into specific points along meridian pathways which have been defined by traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM). IMS is a system for diagnosis and treating chronic pain syndromes that result from musculoskeletal dysfunction.
Get help with new or on-going concussion symptoms, minimize your risk of more severe injury or persistent symptoms, and prepare for high-risk activities with baseline testing. Vestibular therapy is a proven treatment for dizziness and balance problems. There are many conditions that can contribute to dizziness and balance disorders, our assessment helps to determine the roots of its cause.
Neurological physiotherapy uses a holistic, individualized, problem-solving approach to improve postural control, efficiency and quality of movement, task performance, and participation in meaningful life activities for individuals with neurological impairments (example: stroke, traumatic brain injury, spinal cord injury, Multiple Sclerosis, Parkinson’s Disease, and more). The framework for assessment and treatment is based on Neuro-Development Treatment, Bobath, and large amplitude movement training concepts, among others. Treatment techniques may include, but are not limited to, therapeutic handling, postural retraining, muscle activation and strengthening through selective exercises, sensory awareness training, balance training, and specific movement or task training such as gait training.
Pediatric physiotherapy supports children and young adults with movement dysfunctions and treats conditions that impact their physical development, activity and their ability to participate in play, learning and socialization. Movement difficulties may include, but are not limited to: cerebral palsy, development delay, developmental delays, co-ordination disorders, neuromuscular conditions, acquired brain injury, down’s syndrome.
Assessment and physiotherapy programs are developed in collaboration with both the child/young person and their caregiver. Treatment is incorporated into simple everyday activities. Advice and training is also provided so that the family can help and encourage the child to practice their physiotherapy programs.
Shockwave therapy is a type of sound wave that is transmitted through a probe into an injured or painful area on the body to help it heal. The radial shockwaves helps stimulate healing reactions by increasing blood flow and increasing the growth of new cells in the body. It also provides pain relief by allowing the body to regenerate more healthy tissue through a cascade of cellular events. There is currently a large amount of research showing the effectiveness of shockwave as a non-surgical means of helping many chronic conditions to heal, provide pain relief, and improve function. > Learn more about Shockwave Therapy
